2Pet 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
“Oh but dad, I NEEEEEED it!” You ever hear those words before? Yes, those words that turn want into need. They are generally aimed at some object such as a new cell phone, a video game, a toy, a bike, a new plasma screen TV… oh wait, that’s dad who NEEEEEDS that one. Has our line between wants and needs been blurred? Now we do have needs and real ones at that. And there are some who walk through life feeling like they will never have what it takes to be successful. Some walk through life feeling like they will never be enough, have enough, or get enough.
Here in 2 Peter 1:3, he writes that His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness. Life is not a toy. It is not a game. It is not a TV. Life is real and real things are needed to sustain it. Imagine a carpenter heading to work for the day. A carpenter is going to need some tools to get the job done. He might need (I am guessing here, I am not a carpenter) some work boots, a tape measure, a level, a saw, a hammer, a square, a sander, some nails, among other things. What if he tried to go to work without any tools? Is he just going to play around with 2×4’s? That wouldn’t be a very productive day at work!
We can easily walk through life like an unequipped carpenter. Maybe we are focusing so much on the wants that we lose sight that we have been equipped with all that we NEED. You see, His divine power has given us everything we need for life! Everything. Everything. He has given us everything. Can I say that again? Everything. In Him, you are equipped. In Him, you are enough. Let Him, by His power, fill you with everything you need for today!
